Ships automatically send their LRIT information to an Application Service Provider/Data Centre appointed or operated by the flag State Administration. The Administration can at all times monitor the vessel, request on-demand transmissions and change the automatic reporting interval.

Cargo residues that cannot be recovered using commonly available methods for unloading may be discharged outside a special area as far as practicable but in no case less than 12 nautical miles from the nearest land. These cargo residues may not contain any substances classified as harmful to the marine environment, taking into account the IMO 2012 Guidelines for the Implementation of MARPOL Annex V.

A complete inspection before a ship is put into service of all the items relating to a particular certificate, to ensure that the relevant requirements are complied with and that these items are satisfactory for the service for which the ship is intended. (2011 HSSC Survey Guidelines, 2. 1)
