SOLAS contains no specific provisions for the provision of anchors and cables. The requirement of SOLAS regulation II-1/3-1 for ships to be constructed, equipped and maintained in conformity with the rules of a recognized classification society (or an equivalent national standard) means that, for most ships, relevant class rules for anchoring equipment must be complied with.

From 1 January 2014, seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board a ship which is required to comply with the provisions of the ISPS Code on the business of that ship as part of the ship's complement without designated security duties must, before being assigned to any shipboard duties receive appropriate approved training or instruction in security awareness as set out in table A-VI/6-1 of the STCW Code.
