Part 1 contains guidelines for periodic servicing and maintenance of lifeboats, launching appliances and on-load release gear, and has three appendices:
Appendix 1 contains specific procedures for maintenance and servicing; Appendix 2 contains general guidance on the conduct of 5-yearly load tests on UK vessels; Appendix 3 contains approval procedure for independent lifeboat servicing companies. Part 2 contains guidelines on safety during abandon ship drills using lifeboats, and Part 3 concerns free-fall lifeboats.
