What are the various types of terms and conditions printed or written in charter parties?

Standard terms are clauses printed on the charter party form.

Side clauses are typed clauses inserted in a standard contract, often amending the printed terms, and very often typed in the margins of the document, with lines indicating exactly where in the text they are to be inserted. Rider clauses are typed clauses containing additional terms agreed by the parties, normally added at the end of the standard terms; they over-ride any standard term conflicting with them. Addenda documents may contain sensitive clauses that the parties do not want to be in the main charter party document for reasons of security. A side letter may be appended concerning matters relating to the contract, such as charterers' instructions to the master.
