Sub charter. This is a charter in a "chain" of charters where one party, the "head charterer" uses the provisions of a "sub let" or "relet" clause to charter the ship to another Charterer. The head Charterer remains responsible for fulfilment of the contract between him and the owner. In a sub charter situation, the original Charterer can appear to the sub Charterer to be the "owner" and is referred to as the "disponent owner".
